I often contend that visual artists of African ancestry have created a few visual arts "isms' but have not been willing to give them names. I know folks like to think art is subjective of personal but I assert when folks in various regions arrive at a similar visual point, but have never met or seen each other's work, that is the presence of a "ism" or movement. There is no influence without contact.

Where would music be without terms like jazz, funk, or hip hop to distinguish each genre? THe mainstream boasts of abstraction, impressionism, or even cubism, but what about Rhythmism or Afro-Deco, or Trans-africanism? I would luv to have a mindful flow about the potential of growing 'isms" and movements based on existing evidence. Work that exists on the now.
